Instructions:
Cook the Ground Beef:
In a large skillet or pot, cook the ground beef over medium heat until it starts to brown. Drain any excess fat.
Add Aromatics and Vegetables:
Add the chopped onion and garlic to the skillet with the beef, cooking until the onion is softened.
Stir in the diced potatoes, chopped tomato, and green bell pepper (if using).
Add Seasonings and Liquid:
Sprinkle the cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper over the mixture. Stir to combine.
Add the tomato sauce and broth, stirring well to create a saucy consistency.
Simmer the Picadillo:
Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 15-20 minutes or until the potatoes are tender, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Add more broth if needed to keep the mixture saucy.
Serve:
Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve warm with fresh flour tortillas on the side.
Enjoy this delicious Mexican Picadillo with a side of warm tortillas to scoop up all the flavors. Perfect for a cozy meal!
